Illustration Friday : Reverse

Instead of illustrating the word reverse, I decided I would create an illustration in reverse.  First paint, then ink then pencil; the opposite order from how I would normally work.  I didn't end up getting to the pencil stage.  It was actually harder for me than I thought it would be, especially going straight to ink without the safety net of a sketch first.  I'm pretty happy with the result, it's kind of a little shout out to Peggy Rathmann's The Day the Babies Crawled Away (one of my favorite books of all time).

Lovely illustration and nice 'reverse' effect.

Before I fully read what you said, I saw the "reverse" as the world being just black and the sky and water being detailed and colored--and I think it's beautiful!--but what an interesting exercise. It's probably a really good idea for "loosening up" and I know some people who do stuff like this regularly...

Don't you love the way watercolor just creates itself? Beautiful!

That is such a beauty. I love this landscape. Especially the little boat. There is so much drama.

The reversing worked like a charm!

Personally I should make little exercises the other way around. I know it gets better if I start with a pencil sketch, but I seldom have the patience.
